Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Otherwise known as OCD. This is characterized by a person focusing on a single thought which then causes the person to perform rituals to stop the anxiety caused by these symptoms. These become problems when it affects a persons dailty routine. Often a person with OCD will need to have things in a particular order or have repeating thoughts about contamination. OCD is a medical brain disorder. Signs and symptoms can include checking and rechecking things like a locked door – constantly asking Are You Sure – and having strange rituals like pressing any button 3 times or flicking a lightswitch on and off several times before turning it off. Medication is used to treat this disorder. SSRI medications are commonly used.
