Going Off Medication When You are Bipolar

Many people with Bipolar disorder are on doctor prescribed medications. Often, the person with Bipolar disorder, or any other mental disorder, will sometimes feel they want to try going off their medication. Unfortunately, this does not always turn out well.

Knowing that Bipolar Disorder cannot just go away after taking medications. Depending on the phase of the disorder the person can feel they are getting better, or even cured, with their Bipolar Disorder. If you are in a relationship and your partner is Bipolar you need to know when these decisions are made regarding medications. Going off medications without a doctor’s approval can lead to many interpersonal problems in a relationship. This is especially true when a partner does not let the other person know their decision regarding medications.

As a partner in a relationship you may want to set guidelines as to how you feel about the other person going without medical treatment for their mental illness. The decision to go off medications can affect their lives, as well as the people in their lives.
